What We Do

Kalia Health is a biotechnology startup dedicated to developing women and birthing people’s healthcare technologies for use in low-resource settings in the United States and globally. Through our development of the home-based KAL-PDx which detects complications like preeclampsia and eclampsia early on, we aim to improve maternal health outcomes and provide women and birthing people with the tools they need to take control of their own health.

Kalia Health

Early screening for pre-eclampsia is vital for the health of both the pregnant individual and their baby. Detecting signs early allows healthcare providers to implement interventions, reducing the risk of serious complications such as eclampsia and fetal growth restriction. Regular prenatal check-ups enable timely intervention, safeguarding the well-being of both mother and child.

Burden of Disease

Protein detection in urine tests play a critical role in the early detection of pre-eclampsia during pregnancy. These tests are typically conducted during routine prenatal visits. Kalia Health works to provide at-home urine detection tests in order to detect elevated levels of protein in the urine. These proteins can signal potential kidney dysfunction, a hallmark feature of preeclampsia. Timely detection through these tests allows for prompt intervention and management of the condition, reducing the risk of complications for both the mother and baby. Regular screening for preeclampsia is therefore essential in ensuring the optimal health and safety of pregnant individuals and their unborn children.
